In 1902, my third great-granduncle, Lucas Winnie Faulkner, died a few days after his prized parrot. I've seen few obits of people's pets (outside of Findagrave, mind you). I hope his grief didn't hasten his death.
And how did he persuade a local paper to print a parrot's obituary?
Cousin Bait: My third G-Grandfather, Isaac Terhune Van Doren (1819-1905), was a half brother to Mr. Faulkner.
Van Doren's mother, Elizabeth Voorhees Mount (1799-1878), had married Mr. Faulkner's father after the death of her first husband, Isaac Christian Van Doren (1797-1821).
